July 12 meeting: “Michelle’s Love” Helps Single-Parent Families Struggling with Cancer

Founded by our speaker Andy McCandless after witnessing the death of her best friend Michelle Singleton in 2005, Andy wanted to help moms like her while they were undergoing treatment. She co-founded a non-profit organisation in Arizona to help support women with tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and paying bills, to allow the women spend more precious time with their children.

After helping more than 100 families in Arizona, Andy moved to Portland, where she established “Michelle’s Love” to help single-parent families in our area as they struggle with cancer. Please join us to find more about this much-needed organisation.

August 2 meeting: Update on the Second Location of the Sunshine Division

In 2017, the Portland club made a $5000 donation to the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division, to help support the opening of a second food pantry and clothing room facility in the SE Portland.

Joining us to update us on the progress of that facility will be Tod Thayer, the Major Gifts Officer with the Sunshine Division. Tod is a northwest native with 25 years of nonprofit management and fundraising experience. After working as Program Manager for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the mid 90’s, he continued his career in nonprofit development as Executive Director at United Way of the Columbia Willamette and the American Red Cross. Tod and his wife Joy enjoy volunteering for several northwest nonprofits and lead an active life visiting coastal and mountain getaways.
